In an official announcement, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, LLC (NASCAR), an American company that sanctions and manages auto racing, revealed that Cassill will be paid for entirely in cryptocurrencies, most notably Litecoin (quotation LTC) and the Voyager (VGX) token.

The partnership agreement will see Cassill drive a custom # 4 purple Chevrolet Camaro with full Voyager-branded trim in 19 NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season. The first race is expected to start this Saturday at Tennessee Lottery 250 at the Nashville Superspeedway.

A supporter of cryptocurrencies

Cassill admitted, via a telephone interview, that he had been a follower of cryptocurrencies for a long time and that he was only looking for the right agency to partner with. He noted that many of his fans in recent times are cryptocurrency users and the cryptocurrency industry has seen a lot of attention from retail investors.

“I am a cryptocurrency user and have been involved for several years. This is something I've wanted to do for a while, but it was about finding the right partner to do it. Many of my fans are cryptocurrency users and, recently, there has been a lot of attention to detail and mainstream on it. So from the perspective of the community and an athlete speaking for a space, the timing was perfect this summer, ”said Cassill.

The NASCAR driver allegedly met Steve Ehrlich, CEO of Voyager, at a summit two years ago, and they quickly agreed due to a shared interest in cryptocurrencies.

Speaking about the partnership, Ehrlich said:

“Landon Cassill's focus and determination on the track translates into everything he does, which is why we are honored to partner with him in this season's Xfinity Series. Landon also shares our vision of widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies and we are proud to be the first company to guarantee a primary NASCAR sponsorship entirely with cryptocurrencies… I think it's really important that the people you do business with have an understanding of cryptocurrencies " .

Crypto salaries

Litecoin founder Charlie Lee, who also admitted that Cassill has been a strong supporter of Litecoin and the cryptocurrency industry for several years, believes that "the landmark deal shows the growing reach of the Litecoin community in the world of sports. professional and finally beyond ".

While Cassill will be the first racing driver to receive cryptocurrency payments, cryptocurrencies as salaries in the sports industry aren't entirely new.
