The automotive industry is increasingly watching the blockchain

The automotive industry is looking with increasing attention to the blockchain - automotive

The attention of the productive world to the blockchain technology. A completely logical attention, in light of its potential and such as to push more and more the world of politics to split what for a long time had been an unassailable combination, between blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
Among the production sectors that have focused more strongly on new technology is automotive. Many initiatives so far put in place and planned for the immediate future. This second category includes the collaboration project signed by five major brands in the sector, which aims to create a vehicle identification system capable of facilitating automatic toll payments.

What is this?

Starting in November, BMW, General Motors, Ford, Renault and Honda will start testing a system based on blockchain technology for car recognition and automatic toll payments. The partnership undertaken by some of the world's major car manufacturers was made known by the information portal Nikkei Asian Review, according to which it would be aimed at the realization of a vehicle identification system which should be subject to development within the framework of the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative.
In practice, each car examined in the context of the project will be assigned a digital ID linked to the property, the chronology of the services and a wallet which will act as a basis for the payment of any tariffs, allowing the vehicle to do it automatically without requiring the use of dedicated hardware.
The houses concerned focus in particular on the large-scale application of the system in order to connect electric vehicles, so that expenses such as those connected to parking and tolls can be automatically recorded and paid at the same time as the vehicle is connected to the socket. power to recharge the battery.

The Reportlinker study

The agreement announced by Nikkei Asian Review basically confirms what was said in a recent study by Reportlinker, according to which in the automotive and aerospace sectors the growth of blockchain technology will continue at a great pace over the next decade. In particular, the analysts who drafted the study predicted that by 2029 the use of registries distributed in these sectors will allow to obtain one average growth of 60,35% per year, finally going to reach the remarkable value of 20 billion dollars.

The agreement between Jaguar and IOTA

It should also be remembered that an agreement was signed during the summer agreement between IOTA and the famous car maker Jaguar Land Rover, with a view to a proof-of-concept system thanks to which the tracking of energy consumption of the cars of the house, in particular in the I-Pace models, leveraging the use of the blockchain. As a result of this agreement, the function "Green Charging", founded on an IOTA smart wallet, will allow users to track the origin of the energy used, in order to decide independently whether it is appropriate to recharge their car using only electricity deriving from renewable sources or to fall back on other types of fuel .
