If the topic of cryptocurrency continues to divide public opinion, a part of which sees virtual currency as nothing more than mere speculation, the perception towards Blockchain technology is quite different. In this case, in fact, at the institutional level there is considerable attention, deriving in particular from the observation that its potential could be very useful in everyday life. Starting from interactions between citizens and the many public services provided by the State, which also are the subject of great controversy especially in those countries like ours, where the reputation of the Public Administration is too often compromised by the slowness of bureaucratic processes that literally wear out the citizens.
What is the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure
The European Union has recently announced the launch of the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure (EBSI), an initiative made possible by the collaboration between the European Commission and the European Blockchain Partnership. The purpose of the contractors is to create a wide range of public services based on Blockchain technology and therefore to exploit its undoubted potential.
According to the agreement reached, just theat EBSI, during the 2020 it will be transformed into a Building Block of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), guaranteeing completely free enjoyment of software and services through the adoption of distributed registers by institutions and public administrations in every part of the old continent.
The first applications are provided in the 2019
Already during the current year, due to the agreement reached, they will be implemented four cases of use for Blockchain technology, for which a user group must be set up by the Member State concerned, which will also be responsible for implementing a prototype application on the EBSI blockchain. The fields of application envisaged are the notarial certification, awarding of diplomas, identity check , data sharing between the customs and tax authorities of the European Union.
What is the European Blockchain Partnership
The European Blockchain Partnership is a organism born during the 2018 with the aim of promoting the adoption of distributed register technology by the Public Administration. A body that 22 Countries have joined in the occasion of Digital Day organized by the European Commission and which aims to create a fruitful collaboration aimed at creating an elastic environment, within the regulatory framework implemented by the European Union, in order to make Blockchain services flourish in the eurozone. The States that joined from the first moment are the following: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Holland, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic , Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. Those who have not yet done so have nevertheless been invited to do so, at a later time.
Among the initiatives so far put in place by the European Blockchain Partnership, in addition to the financing of some projects which should come into operation by the 2020, there is also the launch of the Blockchain Observatory and Forum, defined by Mariya Gabriel, Outgoing Commissioner of the Economy and the Digital Society, one of the most complete archives on the same technology.
