Human Protocol Google's competitor reCAPTCHA expands to Polkadot

Human Protocol Google's competitor reCAPTCHA expands to Polkadot - Human Protocol 1024x478Human Protocol, the backbone of the hCaptcha anti-bot system, recently announced that it will expand beyond Ethereum to a future parachain with Polkadot, called Moonbeam.

More privacy and less costs with human Protocol

The Human Protocol plan also prepares for the addition of a new distributed labor market on Intel's open source tool known as the Computer Vision Annotation Tool (CVAT) for data labeling which has proven to be very compatible with machine learning. .

hCaptcha currently operates on 15% of the Internet while Google's reCAPTCHA dominates the majority. “With reCAPTCHA, all data, all labeling and work flows within the company as opposed to an open ecosystem,” Lonnie Kurlander, head of Human Protocol operations, said in an interview.

In essence, Human Protocol aims to use a totally different approach than Google's, using machine learning techniques that preserve privacy to identify typical bot behaviors with high precision, all using and storing as little data as possible. .

"Look at Cloudflare to understand why some customers have chosen to switch to hCaptcha," he said, referring to the web security firm's decision to leave Google's system earlier this year for better privacy. To motivate its decision, Cloudflare also cited Google's high costs as one of the main reasons for the move.

A key bridge between Ethereum and Polkadot

Human Protocol is currently up and running on an Ethereum network (here quotation in real time), which Kurlander claims interacts with hundreds of millions of people. Whenever someone solves an hCaptcha on their computer, they are unknowingly interacting with the blockchain.

A recent Outlier Ventures podcast dubbed it "the most used dapp in the world". “The Ethereum mainnet simply could not support the needs of our customers and the volume of transactions that already occur on a daily basis,” Kurlander said.

Switching to Polkadot allows the protocol to break jobs down into smaller tasks and decentralize job markets to anyone around the world, Kurlander said. Moonbeam thus becomes a key bridge between two level 1 blockchains.

Human CVAT

The initial infrastructure for the CVAT-based decentralized job market will roll out on Moonbase Alpha, the public testnet on Moonbeam, until the Polkadot parachain officially launches on the mainnet in early 2021.

An example of a business would be identifying and tagging bikes in an image, for hCaptcha or a similar application to later recognize it as an accurate image during its anti-bot process.

“It allows you to publish a job specification, publish the required accuracy, and as long as someone qualifies they can scan the blockchain and complete the job to get paid,” Kurlander said.
