The champion of Colombia and Bayern Munich James Rodriguez became the first high-profile footballer to launch his cryptocurrency after signing an agreement with SelfSell a few days before the start of the Football World Cup currently taking place in Russia.

The Colombian player announced through Twitter the signing of a partnership with SelfSell to launch its own cryptocurrency, not surprisingly called JR10. The coin was made available for purchase through the SelfSell app on May 27th, and becoming its owner will open its doors to several exclusive privileges, such as the possibility of having souvenirs related to football, meetings with fan clubs and other advantages related to the athlete.

Rodriguez has therefore shown that he has a particularly keen eye for entrepreneurial initiatives and ... it is certainly not the first time: he had previously invested in energy companies and in an operator who works in the bottling of water, in his country of origin.

The 22-year-old was one of the protagonists of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, helping his team enter the quarterfinals for the first time in history and ending the tournament as top scorer. However, the stakes this time seem to be even higher, as James has gained renewed experience and will be playing with a much more experienced Colombian team than four years ago. So the launch of the cryptocurrency right at the moment of its maximum exposure seems to have been an evidently well calculated move.

Recall that former Manchester United striker Michael Owen and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao are also among the sports personalities who have announced the launch of their own cryptocurrencies in recent times.
