Liuzzi: we think of the use of the blockchain for Made in Italy - Made in Italy

Yesterday a European summit dedicated to new technologies was held, including blockchain. The summit was held with the countries of the MED7, that is, those facing the Mediterranean, therefore: Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Cyprus, Malta, Portugal and Greece.

The event was held in Malta, and during this one of the topics addressed was that of Made in Italy. The event saw the participation of the Italian Undersecretary for Economic Development, Liuzzi Mirella. During the event, there was a lot of discussion about new technologies and blockchain for Mediterranean countries.

A discussion that led to the signing of Declaration on the future of the Digital Ecosystem of the Southern European countries, and also of a new Memorandum of Understanding for the sharing and cooperation of the best experiences regarding DLT technologies and based on the blockchain.

As stated by Undersecretary Liuzzi, will be useful to promote various products and territories especially if we consider the problems of the sector such as counterfeiting and fraud.

The Blockchain and technologies which are based on the distributed registers, according to Undersecretary Liuzzi, could be a guiding tool to succeed in promoting the specificities of our territories and to protect products from problems such as counterfeiting and fraud. Therefore it is crucial for Southern European countries to know and better address the issue of emerging technologies, in order to share the experiences and thus put in place initiatives that can attract more private and public investments in the region.

And in this area that Italy is a candidate to be a leading country in the use and adoption of these new technologies. In February of the 2020, there will be a new MED7 summit in Italy in Bari, just to underline the commitment and the role we want to have in the use of new technologies.

The choice of Bari is not accidental, in fact this municipality is one of the first in Italy that has chosen to implement the blockchain in the field of public administration management. Undersecretary Liuzzi it is active in this respect, and for a period it obtained the funds for the Emerging Technology House of Matera, which together with Bari, are already operating in the field of 5G.

So at the end of the summit, one of the possible applications of the Blockchain is the safeguard of Made in Italy, in March, in fact, IBM launched a project in order to exploit this technology in order to protect Italian products.

Therefore, with this project we look for to apply the blockchain to tracking of the entire distribution and production chain so as to guarantee the final consumer to obtain an original product free from counterfeiting, alterations and scams.
