The release of the NFT collection is scheduled to coincide with McDonald China's 31st anniversary since it entered the mainland China market. According to the press release, McDonald China is also officially opening its new headquarters in Shanghai, the design of which inspired the creation of NFT art.

New developments for the popular fast food chain

The Big Mac Cube NFT is the first drop in a series of 188 non-fungible token collectible artwork that will be released to its employees and franchise customers as limited edition gifts. The Big Mac Cube is formed as a "three-dimensional dynamic digital creative work inspired by the spirit of the McDonald's brand", as well as the shape of the newly designed building of the new headquarters, drawing on the structure itself, with the design represented through the colors company badges: red, orange and yellow.

According to the press release, the fast food company also designed these NFTs based on the five corporate values ​​that the company orients itself with: service, tolerance, integrity, community and family; as well as three key words: love, technology and trend. The keywords and values ​​required for the NFTs were generated and designed to create eight three-dimensional scenes combined with the shape of the new headquarters structure, creating a "big nothing".

McDonald's joins other famous chains

McDonald's first foray into NFTs comes in the wake of other popular fast food chains and franchises that delve into NFT gaming, with Taco Bell, Burger King, and even Budweiser releasing their respective NFTs.

Taco Bell's “NFTacoBells” launched last March, with 25 songs sold out on Rarible in under 30 minutes. Burger King's NFT campaign was launched with Sweet, an NFT platform, which released its “Keep It Real Meals” initiative as QR codes that appear on over six million meal packages across its chain. QR codes unlock a digital collectible, which in turn can unlock bonus NFTs.

Last month, it was reported that McDonald's actually became the first major fast-food restaurant to accept Bitcoin as a payment option, due to El Salvador's bitcoin law implementing the policy.
