The largest e-commerce company in Latin America, Mercado Livre, announced that it had banned cryptocurrency advertising on its website, as recalled by Cointelegraph em Português a few days ago.

The decision was revealed during an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph em Português after users of the company reported receiving emails informing them of the change in Mercado Livre's policy. The new policy requires all users of remove ads related to digital currency: otherwise, all ads will be automatically deleted from the platform.

As regards the objects of the advertisements, not only the cryptocurrencies are included, but also the prepaid cards for the games, and some other elements that evidently the company did not consider to be worthy of attention for its own advertising programs.

Mercado Livre he then clarified that the cryptocurrency ads already active on the site will be automatically completed, and that the new ads can only be created if they fall within the allowed sectors. To realize the extent of this decision, it is worth remembering how Mercado Livre (or Mercado Libre) has already surpassed the e-commerce giant Amazon in Latin America. Earlier this month, the company signed an agreement for a massive $ 750 million investment through the sale of common stock to the PayPal payment network.

Great technology companies like Google e Facebook have previously introduced similar bans. For example, in March last year, Google announced a ban on all cryptocurrency-related ads starting in June 2018. The move affected all of Google's advertising products, which means that companies have been unable to run. ads related to the cryptocurrency ecosystem on the search engine giant's sites, as well as third-party sites in its network.

In January, Google allegedly blacklisted the keywords citing Ethereum (ETH) on its advertising platform. Last January Facebook also banned ads using "misleading promotional practices", including cryptocurrency ads and initial coin offers (ICOs) in that category.
